Fire crews are at a building blaze in central Motueka.
Several people were briefly trapped on a balcony as fire engulfed a building in Motueka.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were responding to a building fire on Greenwood Street, Motueka that was reported about 8.25am.
The spokesperson said there were people trapped on a balcony. Stuff understands they have since been rescued.
Traffic management is being put in place around the scene.
