A man with a long gun began targeting the RCMP detachment in the 100-block of Columbia Street shortly after noon, B.C. RCMP said Thursday.

The man then continued to drive around the downtown in a pick-up truck, added Cpl. Madonna Saunderson in a news release.

“Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to anyone during this event.”

A man had been taken into custody without incident by 1:15 p.m.

Residents who were asked to shelter in place, lock their doors and not leave their home or business were encouraged to return to the public sphere after the emergency police alert was rescinded.
